Medical disclaimer
Last updated 26 October 2026.
The content on this website, including articles, the glossary, the research library, the 3D Skin Explorer and news links, is provided for general education. It is not medical advice and does not replace a consultation, diagnosis or treatment by a qualified doctor who has assessed you.
Do not self-treat from this website
- Do not start, stop or change any medicine because of something you read here.
- Never use steroid creams, or mixed creams that contain steroids, without a prescription and supervision. They can cause serious and lasting skin damage.
- Doses are deliberately not given. Your dermatologist decides the right medicine and dose for you.
Emergencies
If you have swelling of the lips, tongue or throat, difficulty breathing, a rapidly spreading or blistering rash, a rash with high fever, or skin that is very painful, hot and spreading, go to the nearest hospital emergency department immediately.
About the articles
Articles are written for the patients of Dr. Maria Ansari, MD Dermatology, and are based on published guidance from sources such as the American Academy of Dermatology, the NHS, DermNet, IADVL and peer-reviewed journals, which are listed on each article. An article is marked as medically reviewed only when Dr. Maria Ansari has reviewed it. Medical knowledge changes, so check the date on each article.
Online consultations
An online consultation has limits. Some conditions need an in-person examination, a biopsy or tests. If that is the case, you will be told.
